Triggs was drafted three times out of Southern California, finally signing with the Royals as a fifthyear senior in 2012. He's made only one start as a pro but has thrived in a relief role, with a 2.02 career ERA. Despite that success, he didn't have a spot in the Royals' system and was sold to the Orioles in 2015 as spring training ended in April. He dominated for Double-A Bowie to help it win its first Eastern League championship and earn a 40-man roster spot. Triggs works from a nearly sidearm arm slot and has crossfire in his delivery, but he still gets downhill plane and tough angle. His fastball has crept up to above-average velocity with more use, at times sitting in the 90-94 mph range, getting excellent sink and inducing a high rate of groundballs. When he locates his sweepy slider and changeup, he can keep hitters off-balance, and he's proven very tough on righthanded hitters, who have hit .244 with two home runs and 76 strikeouts in 250 at-bats the last two seasons. Triggs could anchor Triple-A Norfolk's bullpen if he doesn't earn a spot in Baltimore.
