Paredes has flown under the radar since signing with the Angels in 2012. After two successful seasons in the Dominican Summer League, the native Venezuelan made his stateside debut with a solid year with Rookie-level Orem before spending most of his first full season at low Class A Burlington. Paredes fanned nearly 11 batters per nine innings over his career while walking just over two batters per nine. Paredes' downside is that he's got a bad, low-waisted body and he uses a low three-quarters delivery that requires some effort, but his arm action is quick and compact. He's a strike-thrower who consistently works ahead in the count, delivering an above-average fastball from 92-97 mph. Paredes has some feel for his average slider, but at 76-78 mph it needs to be a harder pitch, and he uses an average changeup to get lefthanded batters out. The question remains whether Paredes' feel for pitching and plus control will compensate for not having any plus pitches in his repertoire, and of course he will have to continue to work on his conditioning. The results have been outstanding in the lower minors, with a return to high Class A Inland Empire in 2016 being a good test whether he can succeed against better hitters.
