Tobias is a 6-foot-1, 225-pound first baseman and lefthanded hitter who has been a solid run producer and power bat for Arizona State for three seasons. He’s a big bodied player who is limited to first base and will derive his value almost entirely from his hitting ability. He has pull-side power and does a nice job staying within the zone on his swing decisions but he’s been much more successful against fastballs than secondaries. He has a reasonable 19% career strikeout rate with Arizona State but significant swing-and-miss concerns against breaking balls and changeups. Tobias also doesn’t have much track record hitting for power with a wood bat which could make him a day three draft target.
