Traeger is a 6-foot, 185-pound lefthanded-hitting catcher who is young for the class and will still be 17 on draft day. He was an early standout as a member of USA Baseball’s 15U National Team with a solid blend of tools and skills. He has a chance to be an above-average defender behind the plate with above-average arm strength. Scouts are impressed with the way he moves behind the plate and he’s also shown both quick actions and solid carry on his throws to the second base bag. He has a simple line drive stroke and a chance to grow into average power with a patient approach at the plate that won’t lead to him getting himself out. He’s committed to TCU where his older brother, Jax, is a righthanded pitcher.
