Rodriguez is a two-way standout for Baseball America’s No. 1 high school team in 2022 and 2023: Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Fla. In pro ball, it’s what Rodriguez does on the mound that’s most exciting. At 6-foot, 198 pounds with a strong lower half, Rodriguez doesn’t have the height or physical projection of some of the other top pitchers in the country in this range, but he already has a power arm for his age and a track record of piling up strikeouts. He throws from a slight crossfire delivery and three-quarters slot and at his best pitches at 90-93 mph and has touched 95. Rodriguez is able to disrupt timing with one of the best changeups in the 2023 high school class. It’s a lively pitch with good sink and fade and he’s able to kill speed with it, often throwing it around 75-78 mph and at times dropping lower while maintaining his arm speed. It’s a plus pitch at times and a threat to get whiffs against both lefties and righties. While the changeup is the key offspeed pitch for Rodriguez, he rounds out his three-pitch mix with a low-80s slider he shows some feel for as well. Rodriguez is committed to Florida and brings championship pedigree after helping lead Stoneman Douglas to another state championship in Florida. He posted a 0.69 ERA over 70.2 innings, with 117 strikeouts and just 13 walks.
