Commit/Drafted: Louisiana State
Age At Draft: 18.5
BA Grade:45/Extreme
Tools:Fastball: 50. Slider: 50. Changeup: 50. Control: 60.
Brown is one of the better pure pitchers in the 2023 prep class and stands out for his poise on the mound, repeatable and smooth delivery and advanced command. Listed at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Brown isn’t the most physical player, but he still has some more room to add strength. During the 2022 showcase circuit, Brown pitched in the upper 80s and touched 92-93 mph with his fastball, and also showed good feel for a slider around 80 mph that needs more power and a changeup that also checked in around 80 mph. Brown pitched with Team USA’s gold medal-winning 18U National Team, making two starts and posting a 3.50 ERA. He continued to pitch in the same velocity range this spring and had more than enough heat to carve through high school hitters, but there’s at least some concern that he doesn’t have the sort of pure stuff that would enable much immediate pro success. Because of that, there are some teams who would prefer to see him reach campus at Louisiana State, where he has the finesse to contribute immediately, and add a bit more physicality and power over the next few years. Conversely, organizations have found success with this sort of pitchability profile and players like Brown have signed in the 3-4 round range in the past.

School: LSU. Drafted: Rangers ’23 (16)
Age At Draft: 21.5
A 16th-round pick in last year’s draft, Brown has gotten opportunities to contribute in his first season in purple and gold. Brown has a quiet setup in the box with a simple swing and plenty of bat speed. He has a knack for finding the barrel and consistently moves the baseball. Brown is also a plus runner with plus arm strength in the outfield. He will be a mainstay in the LSU lineup for the next two years and has day one upside. -
