The younger brother of Angels lefthander Reid Detmers, Parker chose to follow in his brother’s footsteps and attend the University of Louisville. Detmers has a physical build with strength through his frame. He has a short, quick arm stroke and attacks from a three-quarters slot. Detmers’ fastball sits 90-93 and tops out at 94 with some hop through the zone. His mid-70s curveball has a lot more depth than sharpness, but it has a chance to develop into a quality secondary pitch. Detmers has also turned over a few above-average mid-80s changeups that have flashed late tumbling life. He could be pitching on weekends for Louisville as soon as next season. -

Detmers is a physical 6-foot-3, 219-pound righthander who attacks with a three-pitch mix and above-average control. He repeats his delivery extremely well and throws with a shorter arm action and three-quarter slot. Detmers sat in the 90-93 mph range this spring, and touched mid 90s early in outings. Down in the zone it has some sinking action to it and has proven effective up in the zone as well. He complements the fastball with a 77-80 mph tight-spinning curveball that can show both downward break or more three-quarter bite. The offering is sharp enough to serve as a swing-and-miss pitch to both lefthanded and righthanded hitters. He rounds out the arsenal with a firm, mid-80s changeup he throws with good arm speed and arm-side fading life. Scouts compliment Detmers’ ability to locate and mix his pitches, which helps all of his pitches play up. He’s one of the better strike-throwers in the prep class, and it wouldn’t be surprising for scouts to have 60-grade evaluations on his future control. The younger brother of current Angels lefthander Reid Detmers, Parker will follow his brother’s path as a Louisville commit if he’s not selected and signed out of high school this year.
