Age At Draft: 21.7
Pompey has done a little bit of everything this season for the Red Raiders. He has cemented himself as an everyday member of their deep lineup and is hitting .354/.438/.583 with 12 extra-base hits, 31 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Pompey has also started every game at either shortstop or second base, where he has held his own. He has a big-league body at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds with big-time bat speed and above-average thump to the pull side. Like a lot of hitters in the class at this point, his hit tool will need to gain polish as time goes on. Pompey has the arm strength to stick on the left side of the infield, and he could eventually make the move over to third base. -

Commit/Drafted: Texas Tech
Age At Draft: 18.7
Pompey jumps out immediately for his athletic, highly projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds and easy actions at shortstop. He moves around well in the field with good footwork, body control and instincts, making both the routine and challenging plays. Pompey has a strong arm that has reached 90 mph on the mound, with the physical projection to have at least a plus arm that could be a 70-grade tool once he gets stronger. His glove is ahead of his offensive game. Pompey has a loose, quick swing and a chance to grow into solid power—which has already ticked up a bit this spring—but he also has significant swing-and-miss questions and frequently expands the strike zone. He looked overmatched frequently in the batter’s box during the 2022 summer circuit, though he did hit a few hard-hit balls during the high school game at the 2023 Draft Combine in June. Pompey is committed to Texas Tech, and could boost his stock by improving his reputation as a hitter if he makes it to campus.
