Kim is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound shortstop with a highly projectable frame and an uneven track record of hitting throughout his high school career. He has had up-and-down moments on the summer circuit, but had a fantastic spring season with Norco High in 2022, where he hit over .500, before more of a lukewarm senior campaign where he hit .354 with no home runs. Kim doesn’t have a single carrying tool to speak of, but he does a lot of things well. He doesn’t have elite bat speed, but he has a sound swing from the right side and has shown the sort of barrel feel that should allow him to get to solid power as he fills out his frame and adds more strength. There are swing-and-miss tendencies and his swing can get lengthy at times, which could be part of the reason for his offensive inconsistencies. Defensively, Kim moves well at shortstop for a player of his size, and he has solid actions and flashes an above-average arm, but he probably fits better as a third baseman at the next level. He’s slow out of the box and is a well below-average runner. Kim is committed to UCLA and could improve his draft stock by performing offensively for three seasons, though there are some teams who might take a chance on his physical projection on day two if he’s signable there.
