View Draft Report
A 6-foot-4 righthander who transferred to Kentucky after three seasons at Lipscomb, Guilfoil continued to be an effective reliever in the SEC thanks to a fastball with exceptional life. Guilfoil’s velocity is nothing special. He generally sits 91-93 mph and tops out at 95. But he has struck out more than 13 batters per nine innings over the past three years without ever having a need to rely heavily on a breaking ball. Hitters know that his fastball is coming, they just can’t seem to square it up. Opposing hitters hit only .146/.259/.250 against his fastball, even as he threw it 80% of the time. His curveball and changeup are both below-average pitches and his curve is a chase pitch at best that he struggles to locate. But he has plus command of his fastball, and so far, that’s the only pitch he’s needed.
