The athletic 6-foot-6, 215-pound righthander has been a dark horse prospect for most of the spring. Using an up-tempo delivery, the projectable righthander has a shorter takeback, hiding the ball well and releasing from a high three-quarters slot. He lands across his body to add deception to his 92-94 mph fastball that is lively with run, especially up in the zone. The Baylor commit has good feel for his curveball, which sits in the 78-80 mph range. The pitch, with 1-to-7 shape, serves as a solid putaway offering to righthanded hitters, and he also has the ability to backfoot it against lefties. The pitch has the potential to be a consistent plus offering for him in the future. McKinney has a changeup in his repertoire that he will show to lefthanded hitters. The pitch will need some development at the next level. He is around the zone with all of his offerings, and his physicality gives the impression he can be a starter long term, with plenty of upside.
