A 6-foot-7 righthander, Carsten served as the ace for McLennan (Texas) JC this season. In 16 starts, the Oklahoma Sooner commit went 9-2, 3.09. With a fastball that sits in the 90-93 range, Carsten doesn’t overpower hitters. He uses the depth from his height/slot to his advantage, living at the knees with a fastball with plenty of arm-side run. Carsten mixes in a sharp downer 76-78 mph breaking ball. He can locate it for strikes as needed and he will use it in any count. Rounding off his arsenal is an above-average changeup with fade. Scouts believe there is still plenty of upside left for Carsten. He’s an Oklahoma signee who may be a tough sign.
