Track Record: It’s hard to make a name for yourself in baseball as Jose Rodriguez, because there have been more than 80 Jose Rodriguez’s who have played professionally, including seven currently. But the Twins’ Jose Rodriguez has a shot to be known as a slugger with enough hitting ability to get to his power.
Scouting Report: Rodriguez has plus-plus raw power and has shown already that he can get to that juice in games. He led the Dominican Summer League in home runs in 2022 and in 2023 his six home runs were good for 10th in the Florida Complex League. Rodriguez will take some big hacks, but he has acceptable bat-to-ball skills and doesn’t just grip-and-rip. What’s more concerning for Rodriguez’s long-term potential is how quickly he’s filling out. When he signed, he looked like he could be a solid right fielder. He’s gained a lot of weight since and is now a well below-average runner. He started playing some first base and may end up with that and DH as his only options.
The Future: Rodriguez has plenty of power potential and a decent idea of how to get to it, but he’s going to need to work on his conditioning and maintain his already declining speed and agility.

Track Record: Signed in January 2022, Rodriguez had an extremely impressive pro debut. He led the Dominican Summer League with 13 home runs, 49 RBIs and 31 extra-base hits while also ranking among league leaders with a .605 slugging percentage and 115 total bases. He was named a Dominican League all-star.
Scouting Report: Rodriguez was viewed as the best slugger in the Twins' 2022 international signing class, but he's shown already as a pro that he can also handle velocity, a key benchmark for young sluggers to clear. He's overaggressive, like many young power hitters, and he's currently an easy mark for a pitcher with confidence in a changeup. He has bat speed and all-fields power, but with a pull-heavy approach. He's already big and thick, so depending on how he matures, he could end up sliding to first base, although his above-average arm fits in right field.
The Future: Rodriguez has yet to play in the U.S., but he passed his first pro test in impressive fashion. He's one of the team's best young power prospects in years, but he'll need to stay on top of his conditioning to remain in the outfield.

August Update: Rodriguez currnetly leads the Dominican Summer League with 10 home runs. He's a corner outfielder with promising offensive upside. Rodriguez has the abiilty to get into favorable counts, solid feel for barreling the ball and plus raw power.
