School: Georgia Tech Source: 4YR
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.7
BA Grade:40/High
Tools:Fastball: 55. Slider: 55. Control: 40.
Busse pitched out of the bullpen for Logan (Ill.) JC during the 2022 season. While there, he posted a 3.29 ERA over 27.1 innings with 44 strikeouts. Georgia experimented with Busse as a starter during the 2022 fall, and he did get three starts during the spring, but he mostly pitched out of the bullpen, where he posted a 5.10 ERA over 42.1 innings with a 28.2% strikeout rate and 13.6% walk rate. Formerly a four-seam/curveball pitcher, Busse now mostly works off a two-pitch sinker/slider combination. He sat 92-93 mph with the fastball this spring and touched 97, with a 56% groundball rate against the heater. Busse generated a 47% miss rate with his low-80 slider, a high-spin pitch in the 2,500 rpm range that has around 10 inches of horizontal break. Busse has an east-west pitch mix during an era that is more attracted to north-south profiles and high-riding fastballs, but he generates weak contact and scouts think there could be more in the tank for the 6-foot-3, 202-pound righthander. -
School: Logan (Ill.) JC Committed/Drafted: Rice
Age At Draft: 20.7
A 6-foot-4, 200-pound righthander, Busse attacks hitters with a fastball in the 92-96 mph range, with good life up in the zone and a steep angle when he keeps the pitch down. He throws from a higher, three-quarter slot and has feel for a sharp, 79-82 mph breaking ball that has 12-to-6 shape. Busse has a changeup in his arsenal but rarely uses it. In 27.1 innings with Logan (Ill.) JC out of the bullpen this spring, Busse posted a 3.29 ERA while striking out 44 batters (14.5 K/9) and walking 16 (5.3 BB/9). He is committed to Rice and has some physical projection remaining.
