Kimball is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound righthander who ranked as the No. 284 prospect out of high school in the 2021 class. He pitched as a reliever at Notre Dame in his 2022 freshman season and then had a brief stint in the Cape Cod League where he looked even better. Kimball missed the 2023 season after having Tommy John surgery but returned to the mound with South Carolina in 2024. Early in the season he was still looking to find his control—and he was a below-average strike thrower when healthy—but he has shown a 92-94 mph fastball that’s touched 93 and mixed in two quality breaking balls: the first a low-80s slider and the second a mid-70s 12-to-6 curve. Kimball does have a low-80s changeup but has not used the pitch much.
