Age At Draft: 21.4
BA Grade: 45/High
Tools: Hit: 40. Power: 45. Run: 50. Field: 50. Arm: 50.
Schrier was a standout high school prospect and product of SoCal powerhouse JSerra High who stood out for his well-rounded, polished game. He withdrew from the 2021 draft in order to make it to campus at UCLA, where he assumed the everyday shortstop role from the jump and then proceeded to hit .276/.363/.443 over the next three seasons. Now listed at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, Schrier has some untapped power potential thanks to impressive bat speed and solid strength, though he can get overly steep with his bat path at times. Most of his power has gone to the pull side. Schrier never hit more than the nine homers he managed in his freshman season, but there are some clubs who believe there’s more power to be unlocked at the next level. To access that pop, Schrier will need to make more contact against secondaries, which has been a bit of a struggle for him at UCLA. Like his prep days, Schrier still has just average supplemental tools with average foot speed, average defensive chops and average arm strength. His game tends to play up thanks to his baseball instincts, though some scouts expect him to move off shortstop to either third base or second in pro ball.
