Taylor is a toolshed of a baseball player with exceptional athleticism, speed, arm strength, bat speed and raw power. He is at least a 60-grade runner and has gotten 70 grades as well, with double-plus arm strength and a chance to become an above-average defender in center field. What could hold teams back from being all-in on Taylor are his swing and his age. He’ll be close to 20 years old on draft day, making him one of the oldest high school players in the class, and there’s some refinement needed with his swing and his approach. He’s an aggressive hitter who’s looking to put the ball in play, but his swing decisions could be better, and he has also shown a tendency to open up to his pull side which will create holes on the outer half of the plate. Scouts with history on him believe he has made strides mechanically and think as he focuses on baseball only (he’s also a talented basketball player) he will be able to make the necessary adjustments. Taylor stood out at USA Baseball’s National High School Invitational this spring and is a top-three round talent. He is committed to Florida State.
