A 6-foot, 205-pound catcher, Highfill stands out for his defensive ability and athleticism behind the plate. He is a good runner for a catcher and turned in a plus 60-yard dash time at East Coast Pro (6.64 seconds). Between his athleticism behind the dish and arm strength, Highfill has a chance to be an average or better defender at the game’s most premium position. He has above-average arm strength and a quick exchange that allows him to make the most of that arm talent and should develop into a reliable catch-and-throw backstop. His offense needs work. There is some strength in his swing, but there are also swing-and-miss questions and concerns he’ll tap out as a below-average hitter with below-average game power. Highfill is committed to Mississippi State and could follow in the shoes of fellow 2022 prospect Logan Tanner nicely, with a similar profile and tool set to the current Bulldog backstop.
