Stanfield is a standout runner and impact defender who moved from left field to center as a draft-eligible sophomore with Auburn in 2024. He’s been a solid, but unspectacular hitter for the program in two years with a combined .275/.362/.398 slash line including seven home runs and 18 stolen bases—though many scouts still rave about his 2-for-4 effort against Paul Skenes in 2023 when he barreled up 99- and 97-mph fastballs for singles. Stanfield is a patient, and at times overly passive, hitter at the plate who makes a decent amount of contact and doesn’t often expand the strike zone. He cut his strikeout rate from 23.8% to 17.3% year over year and can pressure opposing defenders with his 70-grade speed and excellent quickness out of the box. That speed is Stanfield’s loudest present tool and also allows him to cover huge swaths of ground in center field where he has a chance to be a near-elite defender. He’s one of the best defensive center fielders in the class and pairs excellent speed with a quick first step, great defensive instincts, ball-tracking abilities and a solid-average and accurate throwing arm. Stanfield entered the transfer portal after the season and will head to LSU for the 2025 season if he doesn’t sign in the draft. -
School: Chiles HS, Tallahassee, Fla. Committed/Drafted: Auburn
Age At Draft: 19
BA Grade: 40/Extreme
Scouting Grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 40 | Run: 70 | Field: 55 | Arm: 45
One of the better runners in the class, Stanfield has turned in double-plus run times and because of that has a chance to be a plus defender in center field. His electronic-timed 60-yard dash at East Coast Pro during the 2021 summer showcase circuit was good for second at the event, behind only Michigan outfielder Gregory Pace Jr. A 6-foot, 190-pound outfielder, Stanfield has some solid hitting qualities with impressive bat speed and solid bat-to-ball skills, though his barrel can get in and out of the zone quickly at times. He lacks strength currently and has below-average power and because of that some scouts might want him to develop and prove his offensive chops at Auburn. He has thrown 93 mph from the outfield at Perfect Game’s national showcase, but scouts think his arm is more consistently fringe-average. Stanfield is older for the class and will turn 19 just after the draft, making him a draft-eligible sophomore in 2024 if he does make it to campus.
