Perez is the son of two legendary coaches. His mother Kelly Inouye-Perez is UCLA’s softball coach and has guided the Bruins to two national championships, and his father Gerardo Perez is the coach at Gahr High in Cerritos, Calif., one of Southern California’s most successful high school baseball programs. Perez is an athletic middle infielder who spent the last two seasons as the Bruins’ starting second baseman. His plus arm is his best tool and his average speed gives him the range to make all the necessary plays. Perez has sneaky power in his 6-foot, 185-pound frame, but he’s a well-below average hitter whose swing needs a lot of refinement. He hit just .231 this season and struggles to hit velocity, although he does have solid strike-zone recognition.
