BA Grade/Risk: 45/Extreme
Track Record: Estanista, signed by the Phillies in November 2019 from Curacao, had his development stunted due to the coronavirus pandemic and didn't make his professional debut until 2021, when he posted a 3.23 ERA in 30.2 innings in the Dominican Summer League. He made his stateside debut in 2022, boasting a 3-0, 2.01 mark with 14 hits allowed and 35 strikeouts in 31.1 innings in the Florida Complex League.
Scouting Report: Estanista has an easy delivery out of his athletic 6-foot-3 frame, and routinely gets his fastball into the mid 90s and tops out at 98.3 mph, with room for more velocity gains in the future. Opposing scouts think the fastball has the potential to be a plus-plus offering out of the bullpen, with heavy riding life, above-average spin and good deception. He mixes in a high-80s changeup with huge velocity separation off his fastball. The pitch is average, with the potential to improve to above-average thanks to his ability to sell the pitch, although it lacks much movement. He rounds out his arsenal with a big breaking ball in the low 80s that showed improvement in 2022 and served as a swing-and-miss pitch, but he needs to improve his feel for spin. He struggles with his command at times and lacks repeatability, but impressed with his ability to adjust and improve in 2022. Estanista could move quickly in a bullpen role, but if he can improve his control and sharpen his curveball the Phillies could continue to use him as a starter.
The Future: Estanista should make his full-season debut at Low-A Clearwater in 2023, with a high-octane fastball capable of giving hitters headaches at the back of a bullpen.
Scouting Grades: Fastball: 65. Curveball: 45. Changeup: 50. Control: 40.
