  Jones has one of the more explosive swings in the class, with bat speed, natural strength and impressive rotation and torque that translates to plus raw power and impact potential. Listed at 6-foot-2, 224 pounds, Jones is plenty physical and looks like a big league third baseman with the power to profile there, though scouts are mixed on whether he sticks at the position and he also didn’t perform up to expectations over the showcase circuit. He swung and missed at a surprisingly high rate and would chase fastballs and sliders out of the zone frequently, leaving scouts to wonder about both his contact ability and approach. He has the arm strength to stick at third base, but he’ll need to improve his lateral mobility and maintain his body to stick at the position and avoid moving across the diamond to first base. While he has a lengthy track record as a mashing underclassman, and plenty of raw power in the tank, he continued to struggle this spring in Texas and because of that many teams might prefer to let him get to campus at Arkansas and prove his hitting chops in college.
