If you’re looking for a true under-the-radar prospect, Binns is your man. The Illinois native pitched previously at Waubonsee (Ill.) CC before heading west for the 2021 season to Division III Benedictine University Mesa. A plus athlete who was known more for his basketball exploits in high school and junior college, Binns is a raw pitching prospect with intriguing size. The 6.05 ERA and 36 walks in 55 innings this past season indicates that he’s going to be a major project for his coaches at the next level, especially since he hasn’t been pitching all that long. Binns got additional work this summer in MLB’s collegiate Appalachian League. Binns has a fastball with some arm-side run and ride that ranges from 90-97 mph, but usually sits in the 92-94 range. He has feel for a future average curveball and his split changeup can get swings and misses. He’s a reliever all the way, with plenty of development ahead. With his size and freakish athleticism, Binns can turn into something special if it all clicks.
