Brock worked as a reliever throughout his four-year career at Ohio State, serving as the Buckeyes closer the last two seasons. He has a powerful fastball-slider combination and can run his heater up to 99 mph. His slider is a plus offering and elicits swings and misses. While he has two pitches with plus potential, he struggles to throw strikes consistently. If he can iron out his control, he has upside as a late-inning reliever.

Track Record: Brock spent four years in Ohio State’s bullpen, impressing in consecutive summers in the Cape Cod League. The Blue Jays drafted Brock in the sixth round in 2022 and signed him for a below-slot bonus of $72,500. He debuted with Low-A Dunedin and earned a promotion to High-A Vancouver after one appearance. Brock returned to Vancouver to begin 2023. He earned promotion to Double-A New Hampshire in late May and made 32 appearances for the Fisher Cats.

Scouting Report: Brock is a high-powered reliever with a bulldog attitude on the mound. He mixes two pitches primarily in his four-seam fastball and slider. Brock’s fastball sits 95-97 mph and will touch 100. The pitch features pedestrian movement and release traits and doesn’t miss many bats. Brock’s slider is his primary pitch and it drives excellent results, with high whiff rates in and out of the zone and poor-quality contact against. Brock’s slider sits 88-90 mph with tight gyro shape, and he shows the ability to command it. Brock shows fringe-average command of his powerful two-pitch mix.

The Future: Brock is a two-pitch reliever with power stuff and the ability to move quickly.

Ohio State has a bit of a thing for pitchers with loud pure stuff and suspect control. Seth Lonsway fit that profile in the 2020 class and returned in 2021, while Brock has been up to 99 mph from the right side and shown a plus slider to go along with it. The 6-foot-1, 197-pound righthander has been exclusively a reliever with Ohio State, but this spring he had his best year with the program, posting a 2.08 ERA over 21.1 innings and 19 appearances. He still walked more batters than he had in the past (16, for a 6.6 BB/9) but he also struck out 33 (13.7 K/9), which was good for the highest strikeout rate of his career. Brock is an explosive athlete with a fast, whippy arm from the left side who scouts want to see take a step forward with control. If he does that, he has upside as a power reliever.
