A 5-foot-11, 187-pound shortstop from Tulane, Burns has a solid toolset across the board and profiles as a utility player. He broke out offensively in 2019 with a .305/.396/.405 slash line and then took another step forward this spring, hitting .353/.410/.571 with a career-best eight home runs. He’s aggressive at the plate but has some bat-to-ball skill, though he’s struggled on off-speed and on the outer half of the plate. Defensively he has solid hands and enough range to make the routine plays, but some scouts think he will fit best at second base long term, or be a player who bounces around the infield as a utility type. Burns is a plus runner and has stolen 22 bags in 28 tries for his career.
