BA Grade/Risk: 45/Extreme
Track Record: Pinto was one of the youngest players in the 2020-21 international signing class and signed with the Mariners for $700,000 out of Venezuela. The Mariners held him back from pitching to focus on strength and conditioning in his first year in the organization, and he returned bigger and stronger for his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2022. Pinto showed some of the best stuff in the league once he got on the mound, but he also struggled with his control and had 29 walks, 13 wild pitches and six hit batters in 30 innings.
Scouting Report: Pinto is a long, lean 6-foot-4 lefthander with enticing stuff and lots of physical projection remaining. His fastball sits 88-90 mph, touches 92 and has room to tick up as he matures and fills out his frame. His fastball plays up with plus life and movement and could be a plus pitch at its peak. Pinto's best pitch is a plus curveball with tight spin, sharp bite and good depth. He also has a nascent changeup that slowly developing. Pinto misses plenty of bats with his fastball and curveball, but his control and command are well below-average. His control should improve as he gets stronger to improve his body control and gains more game experience.
The Future: Pinto's ability to miss bats from the left side is promising, but his outlook depends on if he can improve his control. He'll move stateside to the Arizona Complex League in 2023.
Scouting Grades: Fastball: 60. Curveball: 60. Changeup: 40. Control: 30
