Gair was a pop-up prospect out of high school during the spring in the 2021 class, and he ranked as the No. 288 prospect that year thanks to a fastball that reached 98 mph. Gair made it to campus at UNC Wilmington, and struggled mightily with control in 2022 when he walked 20 batters in just 17 innings. Following the season, Gair transferred to Florida Southwestern JC, where he posted a 1.75 ERA through nine starts and 36 innings, with 52 strikeouts and 22 walks. Gair has a huge frame at 6-foot-6, 230 pounds and sat with a fastball in the mid 90s that still reaches the upper 90s with fantastic arm speed from an over-the-top arm slot. He can spin a breaking ball as well, though locating it is another story, as is the consistency of the offering. His delivery features significant downer head whack and recoil and like his prep days, he still looks like more of a thrower than a pitcher. While there are plenty of question marks with Gair, there’s significant arm talent to work with as well. -
Gair was a pop-up prospect this spring after showing a fastball that touched 98 mph multiple times. Previously, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound righthander showed a fastball that sat in the 94-95 mph range, but now scouts see an arm that could easily touch 100 mph soon. Gair also throws a loopy curveball in the mid 70s that has some shape but needs continued refinement. While his arm talent is real, scouts aren’t sure about his control or the secondary pitches in his arsenal. He is more of a slinger than a pitcher currently and will need to take big steps forward in the strike-throwing department to make the most of his impressive fastball velocity. Gair is committed to UNC Wilmington.
