Adams served as Sacramento State’s No. 2 starter behind Scott Randall this spring and took advantage of all the scout attention on Randall. His overall numbers weren’t impressive with a 4.31 ERA, 82 hits allowed and 72 strikeouts in 79.1 innings, but he flashed enough stuff to become a draft prospect in his own right. Adams fastball ranges from 90-95 mph and has touched 97 at its best. He goes right after hitters with his fastball and gets plenty of swings and misses on it. Adams mostly just throws his fastball but flashes an above-average changeup that gets chase swings and misses. He lacks an effective breaking ball and threw his curveball less than 3% of the time this season. Adams is a good athlete with a quick arm and still has some physical projection left to add strength and throw harder in the future. Whether he can develop an effective breaking ball will determine whether he ends up a starter or reliever.
