Walters began his career at California before transferring to Mt. San Antonio (Calif.) JC and eventually San Diego State. He missed all of 2019 with torn left ACL but returned this spring and took over as the Aztecs’ starting shortstop. Walters is a good athlete with average speed and an average arm. He’s an adequate defender at shortstop, is above-average at second base and has enough arm for third base. He’s a good enough athlete scouts believe he could play left and right field as well. Walters has bat speed but doesn’t have much of a track record performing in games. He has the ingredients to hit enough to survive in a utility role.
