Wainwright was a two-sport star in high school, also playing wide receiver at St. Edward, one of Ohio’s biggest football powerhouses. He picked up half a dozen scholarship offers to Mid-American Conference schools to play football, but instead committed to Ohio State for baseball. He has a good feel for hitting and, while his speed isn’t elite, his athleticism plays well in center field.
