Kohlhepp in 2019 began his college career at Tennessee before transferring to Iowa Western JC and then Notre Dame, where he broke out in 2021. Working as a relief ace, he averaged nearly three innings an appearance and his 3.08 ERA ranked fifth in the ACC. He mostly attacks hitters with a fastball that has some sinking action and plays up thanks to his funky arm action. He can touch the upper 90s with the pitch, but typically sits around 93 mph.
