Ty Collins

Collins lost his senior year of high school to the coronavirus pandemic and didn’t pitch in an official game this season after junior colleges in Los Angeles County decided not to play this spring. He instead played in the BRG League, a popup league for junior college players that had their seasons canceled, and began to rise in the weeks leading up to the draft after he stopped playing both ways and focused solely on pitching. Collins is an athletic righthander with a quick arm and a projectable 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame. His fastball sits 92-95 mph out of a smooth, clean delivery, and he has plenty of room to add more velocity as he gets stronger. Collins is still very raw as a pitcher because he’s thrown so few innings. He doesn’t have much of a breaking ball and his control is below-average. He throws a curveball now, but with his arm speed a slider could be a weapon for him once someone teaches him the pitch. Collins previously played center field and is a plus runner with a plus-plus arm, but he swings and misses too much at the plate. Collins is a long-term project who needs innings after barely pitching the last two years. His fastball and projectable frame give him upside if he can figure out a breaking ball and control.
