Brutcher played for his father Len, who was a second-round pick by the White Sox in 1988, in high school at Lakeland (Fla.) High. While his father was a pitcher, Brutcher is a tall and powerful outfielder with a 6-foot-5, 203-pound frame and easy plus raw power to go with it. Brutcher never hit over .300 in a single season with South Florida, but is a career .295/.417/.552 hitter who homered 13 times in back-to-back seasons. He has all-fields power and big-time exit velocity numbers, including a 92 mph average exit velocity this spring and peak exit velocities around 110 mph. He’s solidly a power-over-hit offensive player who has struggled mightily with contact, and posted a 30% or higher strikeout rate in his final two seasons with South Florida. He also struck out at a 29.6% clip with Falmouth in the Cape Cod League during the 2022 summer. Brutcher has played center field for South Florida and moves well for his size, but he profiles best in a corner outfield position at the next level, where his plus arm would fit nicely in right field.
