View Draft Report
Girton pitched mostly in a reliever role for Texas Tech for three seasons before transferring to Oklahoma for the 2024 season where he started 10 games and pitched out of the bullpen in six other appearances. A 6-foot, 227-pound righthander, Girton posted a 7.32 ERA over 35.2 innings with a 24.7% strikeout rate and 16.3% walk rate. While Girton has below-average control that has limited him, his pure stuff is loud starting with a fastball that averaged 94 mph and touches 97-98 with a flat approach angle that could help it play up at the top of the zone. His primary secondary is a hard mid-80s slider with short two-plane biting action that could be a solid pitch if he’s able to put it over the plate a bit more frequently. Girton has thrown a handful of firm upper-80s changeups but rarely used the pitch this spring.

At 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, Girton is a physical righthanded pitcher. He split his time at Texas Tech between the starting rotation and bullpen, and in 2023 he posted a 5.86 ERA over 50.2 innings, with a 15.1% strikeout rate and 13% walk rate. That strikeout rate was the lowest of his career, and while he sits 92-94 mph with his fastball and touches 97, the pitch has below-average life and generated a miss rate of just 16%. Girton throws a mid-80s slider that has two-plane break at times, but he often leaves the pitch up over the plate, where it will flatten out and become a bit too hittable. He’s also worked in a mid-80s changeup, but used the pitch less than 10% of the time this spring. With below-average control, Girton profiles as a reliever in pro ball, where his stuff could potentially take a step forward in shorter outings and with a focus on just two pitches. -
Girton can run his fastball up to 94-96 mph thanks to a high-energy delivery with significant effort. That effort and his below-average control lead to plenty of reliever projections. The Texas Tech signee is already filled out and physical at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. He needs to improve the consistency of his breaking ball, but he shows feel for spin.
