School: South Carolina Source: 4YR
Commit/Drafted: Phillies ’22 (18)
Age At Draft: 22.5
After a 2022 season in which he hit .312 with 13 doubles and seven home runs, Wimmer was selected in the 18th round of the draft by the Phillies. Instead of signing, the 6-foot-4 Wimmer opted to return to Columbia, S.C., for his senior season. It’s a move that appears to have paid off, as Wimmer slid from second base to shortstop and seems to have significantly improved his offensive approach and plate discipline. His 21.5% strikeout rate was largely in line with his 2022 numbers, but he boosted his walk rate from 6.1% to 11.7% and hit .304/.409/.561, with a career-high 14 home runs. Wimmer has a great frame at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds with solid raw power that he generates with above-average hand speed and long levers that create solid leverage. He is an above-average runner who went 34-for-40 (85%) on the bases in his four-year career with the Gamecocks. Wimmer has an odd throwing motion, but he has slightly above-average arm strength, though scouts don’t believe he’s a shortstop at the next level. He could wind up back at second base or even get a chance to play center field in pro ball. He could be a top-10 round selection as a senior sign for teams who buy into his offensive improvements and believe he’s finally starting to tap into an impressive overall tool set.

School: South Carolina Committed/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.6
A 6-foot-4, 200-pound infielder and outfielder, Wimmer has loud tools between his raw power from the right side and plus running ability and is coming off a career-best offensive season this spring. Wimmer has struggled with contact throughout his collegiate career (24.1 K%) and that was the case again this spring (22 K%), but he did hit over .300 for the first time at South Carolina. Through 55 games Wimmer slashed .312/.361/.466, with seven home runs and 13 doubles, while stealing 13 bags in 14 attempts. Primarily a second baseman for the Gamecocks, Wimmer has played all over the diamond and could wind up being a utility type player at the next level if he can improve his contact ability. Wimmer tends to chase outside of the zone—particularly against secondaries—and will need to either showcase more game power or cut down on his swing and miss to profile as an everyday player. Wimmer had a solid summer in the Cape Cod League in 2021, hitting .282/.333/.424, albeit with 27 strikeouts (29 K%) and four walks (4.3 BB%).
