Crampton is a glove-first prospect who handles shortstop at a high level and has done so for three seasons at Stanford. He won the Pac-12 Conference defensive player of the year award this spring and has the tools to stick at shortstop and be a reliable defender. Listed at 6-foot-1, 183 pounds, Crampton makes plenty of contact at the plate but has limited power. He posts modest exit velocities and hit just three home runs in three seasons at Stanford. He doesn't strike out much and is a savvy baserunner, so he may be able to provide enough offensive value even with his lack of impact. Crampton’s defensive ability will get him drafted. Whether or not there’s more in the tank offensively is a legitimate question.
