After barely playing his first two years at Stanford, Barrera was a pleasant surprise for the Cardinal in 2022. He began the season as a backup infielder/DH who batted near the bottom of the lineup. By midseason he was batting third, and he ended the regular season as the Pac-12 Conference batting champion with a .372 average. Barrera does an excellent job of covering the entire plate as a hitter. While he can be handled by pitchers who can locate on the inner half, Barrera punishes mistakes if they leak over the plate. He also loves to go the other way if a pitcher tries to stay away from him. He consistently hits hard line drives with above-average power to go with at least average pure hitting ability. Barrera's bat will get him drafted, but his glove will be a hurdle going forward. He’s a below-average defender at second base with limited range. Balls get on him quickly and he may need to move to first base.
