Williams began his college career at Dallas Baptist, transferred to San Jacinto (Texas) JC and ended up at Texas, where he blossomed in 2021 after a middling performance during the brief 2020 season. Texas is not an easy park to put up big offensive numbers, so Williams’ 12 home runs was second best on a team that went to Omaha. His .295/.415/575 slash line was among the team’s best in all three categories. The switch hitter has a noisier setup and lower hand-set from the left side than the right. He’s also more pull-oriented as a righthanded hitter and has more of an all-fields approach from the left side. Williams eventual defensive home is less clear. He’s played shortstop (at San Jacinto) and third base (at Texas).
