Drafted in the 17th round (517th overall) by the New York Yankees in 2018 (signed for $125,000).
Scouting Reports
TRACK RECORD: Loseke was primarily a reliever over three seasons at Arkansas, where he racked up 131 strikeouts in 112 innings with four saves. The second cousin of former Royals outfielder Alex Gordon, Loseke is also a product of the same Oklahoma high school that produced former Marlins righthander Josh Johnson and current Blue Jays reliever Thomas Hatch.
SCOUTING REPORT: After sitting 89-92 with his fastball in his final season at Arkansas, the Yankees saw a bit of a velocity jump before the season was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, he touches 95 mph with his heater, which shows the big-time riding life up in the zone that modern pitching departments covet. He pairs the fastball with a sweepy slider that elicits swings and misses. He needs to throw more consistent strikes, but he’s got a chance to be New York’s next pop-up reliever prospect.
THE FUTURE: Loseke finished the 2019 season with short-season Staten Island but missed out on a development year in 2020. He’s likely to find a spot in the High-A bullpen when the minor leagues return.
