Ross was one of the bigger disappointments in this year's college class. A preseason All-American, he was considered the best catch-and-throw defender in college after his performance in the Cape Cod League last summer. The 6-foot-2, 208-pounder has a track record of not hitting, however, and he has made no offensive impact this spring, batting .211/.289/.281 in the regular season. His defense also has backed up, particularly his receiving, as he has boxed more pitches than usual. He has thrown out 36 percent of basestealers and handles a pitching staff with good velocity well. He might wind up as a senior sign.
