Zunica, who skipped his senior year of high school to enroll at Miami, hit .174 as a freshman for the Hurricanes and transferred to State JC of Florida, where he hit 13 homers in the spring. Only an expansive home ballpark kept Zunica from clubbing 20 or more longballs. Then the massive teenager--he turned 20 after the season--hit .271/.329/.496 and ranked third in the Rookie-level Arizona League with seven home runs. Zunica's obvious carrying tool is his double-plus raw power, the best in the organization. Despite his strength and size, Zunica does not have an all-or-nothing approach. He has a good bat path and barrels the ball with regularity. Because of his size and girth, Zunica has a large strike zone and will be prone to strikeouts. He's a below-average runner and projects to be an average hitter or tick below. Not a graceful player, he'll be confined to first base as a defender and will strive to be an average one.
