The son of former major league pitcher Chuck Cary, Elliott and his family moved from Florida to Oregon before his senior high school season to be closer to Oregon State, where he has committed. Cary fits the profile of a leadoff hitter who plays center field. He's long and lean at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds and has the potential to be a plus defender in center field with above-average speed and range to the gaps to go with an average arm. He has a loose, quick stroke that works inside the ball and creates hard contact up the middle. His below-average power is mostly to the gaps but should improve as he gets stronger. The fact that his family moved to Oregon signals the strength of his commitment to the Beavers, so scouts expect Cary to reach campus.
