Armendariz's tools are better than his production, creating a divide among scouts on his value. He had a modest junior year, hitting .277/.330/.390 with three homers and 22 RBIs through 195 at-bats, causing some scouts to view him as a better senior sign in 2014. Others view him as a top-10-rounds talent thanks to his athleticism and tools package. He has a plus arm in center field and plus speed. Here again, some scouts think he'll be a plus defender, while others question his routes and see him as a left fielder. Armendariz flashes average raw power that doesn't play in games because his bat needs refinement. He gets jammed inside and lacks plate discipline, as evidenced by his 33 strikeouts and eight walks this spring. Even if he tops out as a below-average hitter, his other tools could give him big league value.
