Drafted in the 10th round (314th overall) by the New York Yankees in 2013 (signed for $30,000).
View Draft Report
Lefthander Tyler Webb has an 89-91 mph fastball that plays up because of his deception, but his breaking ball is fringy. He recorded 16 saves and struck out 52 in 36 innings across 28 appearances while walking 11.

Webb's four years at South Carolina were filled with highlights. He was a contributor as a freshman and sophomore on the Gamecocks' back-to-back national championship teams and finished his career with a dominant senior season as closer. The Yankees selected him in the 10th round in 2013 and signed him for just $30,000. Webb carved up batters in the low minors and succeeded at Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as well. The Pirates selected Webb in the 2016 Rule 5 draft, and he was one of four players the Yankees lost in the draft. He will be looking to make the Pirates roster as a matchup reliever after holding Triple-A lefthanders to a sub-.600 OPS in back-to-back seasons. His fringe-average 90-92 mph fastball has enough deception to be effective, and his sweepy fringe-average slider dives away from lefties effectively. His below-average changeup gives him something to toss up against righthanders, but he's best in left-on-left matchups.
