Drafted in the 7th round (196th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015 (signed for $226,000).
View Draft Report
Christy has been around a while, as he went to USA Baseball's 16U team trials in 2011 and was a key Oregon recruit. A 37th-round pick out of high school in 2013, he wound up at Palomar (Calif.) JC just north of San Diego, and had a modest freshman season before breaking through as a sophomore. His 11 home runs this spring ranked first among California juco players; the rest of his team hit three. He ranked sixth in slugging during a .326/.412/.599 season and his lefthanded bat is his calling card. He's physical enough to handle catching everyday at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, and he's cleaned up his body. Christy is a young sophomore (still just 19) who remains raw defensively and lacks fluid athleticism. He has a strong arm but needs to work to quicken his transfer after throwing out 32 percent of 2015 basestealers.

Christy has a muscular frame at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds and stands out most for his powerful lefthanded bat. Scouts wonder how much he'll be able to tap into his power potential because he has a tight swing that dips in and out of the hitting zone. They also doubt his ability to catch. While he has above-average arm strength, he lacks agility and could wind up on a corner. He may ultimately be limited to first base because he's a below-average runner. Christy is committed to Oregon, but if he goes out in the first five rounds or so he's unlikely to make it to Eugene. He is one of the younger players in the high school class and won't turn 18 until September.
