The Mets liked what they saw from Winningham in a pre-draft workout and made him an eighthround pick in 2014. His game is all about power, which is apparent from his jumbo 6-foot-2 frame. The lefthanded hitter brings at least plus raw power to the table, and he led the Appalachian League with 12 homers and 51 RBIs at Rookie-level Kingsport in 2015. He needs to tighten his strike-zone judgment to work more hitter's counts and curb his tendency to chase. At this point, he profiles more as a powerover- hit prospect, especially with a rigid, uppercut bat path that opens holes in his swing. Winningham's large frame and lack of quickness make him a below-average runner and ordinary defensive first baseman, albeit one who throws well. Look for him to be challenged with a jump to low Class A Columbia in 2016.
