Smith is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound shortstop and righthanded hitter who pairs a well-rounded toolset with impressive athleticism that should keep him on the dirt in the long run. There’s no loud carrying tool at the moment, but Smith does a lot of things on the field well. He has a repeatable righthanded swing with solid bat-to-ball skills, and while he lacks impact now he has a frame that should pack on weight and strength in the future to give him a bit more raw power. Defensively, Smith has reliable hands and plus arm strength that will give him a chance to stick at the position, though his average speed might make him a better fit for third base or second base in the future if he slows down. He’s committed to Harvard but has been scouted fairly heavily this spring.
