Johnson is a 6-foot-4, 210-pound righthander with a solid blend of pitches across the board and a projectable frame that will allow scouts to dream on more stuff coming. His fastball is a tick light currently, averaging around 90 mph and touching 92 with a 12-to-6 curveball in the upper 70s that has solid depth and could become an average pitch as well as a changeup around 80 mph that could give him a third solid offering. Johnson doesn’t have a plus offering just yet, but he throws with a fair delivery and a high three-quarters slot and has the sort of high-waisted, lean frame that should allow him to take steps forward in the future. He’s committed to USC and is expected to be a tough sign.
