View Draft Report
A Pennsylvania native, Williams attended Virginia before getting a medical redshirt as a freshman. He transferred south, and although he wants to catch, his pro future likely lies on the mound and he has had helium in Florida as a power arm. He offers athleticism, arm strength and a good body at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. Working exclusively out of the bullpen, he has been 91-94 mph while touching 96. Although many two-way players with arm strength have high-effort deliveries, Williams throws fairly easily. His mid-80s slider shows power and enough spin for scouts to project on it. The 20-year-old Williams offers little in the way of track record with only 10 innings this season, but he has the raw material scouts look for in a pitcher. He has some aptitude behind the plate and hit .318/.366/.383 this season.
