Hanley is a 6-foot-6, 225-pound first baseman and righthanded pitcher with power and arm strength. He has a chance for double-plus raw power at physical maturity and launches balls with big bat speed and tons of strength. It’s a pull-heavy approach at the moment and there are real hit tool questions that could limit his in-game power at the next level. As a well below-average runner Hanley is likely to stick at first base, though he might get a few reps in a corner outfield spot. He throws a fastball in the low 90s and has been up to 94-95 mph with a decent curveball but he has no obvious third pitch and erratic control. Because of that most scouts probably prefer his upside as a power-hitting lefthanded bat, though he might be able to play on both sides of the ball if he makes it to campus at Indiana.
